I am a mom who volunteers too much and doesn’t write enough. When I do write, it is usually a neurotic reaction to life’s absurdities. I give voice to the wrestling match that goes on inside our brains between the self-doubter and the know-it-all. I live in rural Lucketts, Virginia where I manage a 10-acre nature preserve that offers unstructured after school and summer programs for over-privileged children. I do consulting work that often gets in the way of my unpaid career. I also spend too much time and money at Target. That insipid self-realization inspired my first essay.
